My name is Tim Cigelske, and I'm the Social Media Director at Marquette University. Since 2008, my job has entailed being a pioneer in higher education social media. We've been named one of the best universities in social media by Klout.com and the Huffington Post. I've presented at conferences and been featured in case studies. My career has grown with social media.
As social media exploded, I've shifted from tracking metrics by hand to using sophisticated tools like Sprout Social. I've gone from running a few accounts to overseeing 50 profiles in a comprehensive social media management and analytics system. I've learned from successes and failures. I've developed methods for analytics to improve my content creation. Now I want to do more to share my knowledge.
By the time the digital ink dries on this page, new analytics tools will be introduced. Some people may be overwhelmed by changes and choices. If you are a social media manager, analytics can add another layer of complexity and create analysis paralysis. The answer isn’t more information. That's why I devised a step-by-step system to process everything.
With Analytics to Action, you will be guided through steps to learn how to:
"Tim's expertise in social media and how to aptly utilize it as part of a strategic communication plan is second to none. He brings intelligence, tenacity and an unquenchable passion to his work deftly combining his understanding of new and emerging media with his expertise in the core principles of communication strategy and the essence of successful marketing tactics."
- Jason Parry, Development and Communications at Penfield Children's Center | Adjunct Professor
"Tim and his institution, Marquette University, came to my attention from his being mentioned in Bob Johnson's Higher Education Marketing monthly newsletter about Pinterest. I emailed Tim and asked him to explain how he had achieved so much, so quickly with this new social media tool; when he responded, quickly, to my inquiries, he showed an in-depth knowledge that not only fascinated me but gave me an idea to ask him to give a special presentation at the annual eduWeb Conference. He accepted my proposal and he was knowledgeable, popular and a wonderful speaker at the 2012 event in Boston. I'd highly recommend him for his social media knowledge, speaking ability and character."
- Shelley Wetzel, manager and partner of the eduWeb Conference
"Tim was one of the very first people I reached out to when I started my role as social media director at Cal State East Bay. Being new to higher education, I wanted to learn and understand how social media was managed at other institutions. I found Marquette’s robust social media program through online searching and tracked down Tim. He has been such a gracious, delightful mentor! I truly appreciate that Tim has been willing to share not only his successes but also what has not worked. Both learnings have been key in helping me build our program. Tim embodies the concept of social media which is collaboration and promotion."
- Kimberly Legocki, Social Media Director at Cal State East Bay
"Despite an age gap that spans approximately 105 years, Tim and I grew up in social media marketing together. Given that shared experience, I have had the opportunity to view his implementation of strategy over the course of the last few years. His thinking and tactics have not only been effective but impressive. In the highly measurable world of search and social media marketing, his work has landed Marquette University amongst similar efforts by esteemed institutions like Harvard and Stanford."
- John Garvey, owner of Garvey Communication Associates Inc.
"I have worked with Tim on several projects relating to social media and his work at Marquette University. I can tell you that he is the real deal when it comes to knowledge, execution and follow through on the project objectives. He has a very strong local following and respect here in the Milwaukee area, and has been a big part of the national recognition Marquette has achieved in social media communications."
- Wayne Breitbarth, social media trainer, consultant and author of "The Power Formula for LinkedIn Success"
